Rocking and Rolling


Ready to rock and roll.  Jerry’s school concert starts tonight – the first of six performances – and my little monkey is sooooo incredibly excited.

But I felt awfully sorry for her earlier this week – she hasn’t been well, with a temperature, a sore tummy and a cough and Monday and Tuesday were dress rehearsals during school time.

And I would have kept her home but it wouldn’t be fair on her or her schoolmates if there was a gap missing in their dance routine etc. So she had medicine poured down her throat and Séan fetched her early on Monday so she could sleep for the afternoon. Yesterday she went to aftercare and slept for about an hour there.

Today she’s a lot better and this morning saw us pack a picnic and the afternoon will look like this: I’ll leave work about ten minutes early (thank you fabulous boss), fetch Jerry from aftercare, take her back across the road to the school, we’ll sit on the field and eat our picnic supper while I put her make-up on, all because the school requires the children to be in their classes, fully made up, by 17h30.

This is totally inconsiderate on the school’s part because I normally only collect Jerry from aftercare at 17h20 (hence leaving work early) and they clearly don’t have the best interests of working Mom’s at heart.

Anyhoo, we’ll work around it ........... for the rest of this week and the first three days of next week.  Thank heavens for an awfully nice boss.  And thank heavens the school only do a concert once every six or seven years!

Can’t wait to see the concert, they’ve been practising since early in the year.  I’ll be going tomorrow night and again next week.  Watch this space.

Maybe our grandparents/great-grandparents were onto something. Driving Me Crazy

This weekend just past the universe thought it appropriate to teach me a little lesson in patience on the road.   May I begin by saying that, having displayed furious road rage all my driving life, I only really started making an effort not to send my anger-meter off the scale recently and this thanks to my beautiful daughter and my sage Krav Maga instructor.   But somewhere, somehow, someone decided this wasn’t good enough and I was taking too long.   Enter Saturday.   One way I try and ensure calm is to plan properly so as to be on time and afford myself a tranquil, smiley journey.   Saturday was no different.   My Jerry was participating at her year-end dance showcase.   She needed to be at the venue at 16h00.   It is approximately 30 minutes from my house.   Add 10 minutes for eventualities and off we go.   I decided to take Witkoppen (the most popular road from west-roughly to north-roughly).   We head merrily along and I wander across to the left lane because the bu

Life, Love and Exercise

We’ve been trying, since late last year, to get back on track with gym etc.   Jerry, because she would like to participate in the athletics and cross-country running at school and me, because I’d like to be a little healthier.   Have you SEEN the price of chronic medicines?? But, as you know, life happens and gets in the way of our plans a little.   We’ve had a lot more success in the nutrition department – our meals are a lot healthier now that we waved a sad good-bye to the MacDonalds staff and made more time to plan and prepare real food.   But the exercise thing?   Not so much.
